COMPANY PROFILE
Product Benefits
Non-combustibility
Cast iron with lamellar graphite as per EN 1561 corresponds to construction
material class A1 as per German standard DIN 4102 and is non-combustible.
For comparison: all plastic materials used for sewage pipes belong to class
B1 (flame-resistant) or even B2 (inflammable). In case of fire, they can
transmit fire through walls and ceilings, emit toxic gas and create
dangerous compounds with quenching water.
Düker cast iron sewage pipe systems are different: cast iron does not burn
and doesn't emit any gas in a fire. Expensive fire protection collars, which
serve to prevent fire spreading over plastic pipes, are not necessary.
Up to 400ºC, the mechanical properties of cast iron pipes remain unchanged
(for some plastic pipes this is only true up to 70ºC), the melting point is
at 1300ºC. Thermal conductivity and thermal expansion are considerably lower
than for plastics. Therefore expensive expansion joints and similar parts
are not necessary. The thermal expansion coefficient of cast iron
corresponds to that of concrete, so the installation in concrete is no
problem at all.
Noise protection
The graphite particles embedded in the cast iron in lamella form serve to
refract sound waves until they practically run out of energy. Also the
considerable density - in comparison with plastics - absorbs sound waves.
Sound waves transmitted by air are thus mostly absorbed. Those transmitted
by solids are reduced due to rubber sealing in the couplings and the fixings
that prevent direct contact between the pipe system and the wall or ceiling
as well as between the pipe system components.
If a pipe system is installed expertly, waste water flow noise from Düker
cast iron sewage pipe systems is not a problem even without additional noise
insulation.
Durability
Cast iron sewage pipes have been proving themselves for centuries, for
unlike other materials, cast iron does not age or become brittle with time.
If the installation is carried out expertly, ventilated sufficiently and
using the suitable coating variant, corrosion is not a problem either for
the durability of Düker cast iron sewage pipe systems.
If, for visual effect, the rusting of SML pipes is to be avoided, the pipe
system can be coated with anti-corrosion coatings suitable for steel. This
is recommended particularly for pipes and fittings outside of buildings
(rain water down pipes etc.).
SML pipes embedded in concrete are protected excellently by the surrounding
concrete.
Stability
Often cast iron rain standpipes are used to protect the lower part of rain
water down pipes from damage.
The same stability distinguishes cast iron sewage pipes and fittings during
transport and on the building site. They also prove themselves in
multi-storey car parks or in places where they defy vandalism.
This solidity also allows to do with considerably fewer fixings than for
plastic pipe systems. A 3 m cast iron pipe is supported with only two pipe
fixings - a considerable cost and time factor.
Recycling
cast iron sewage pipes and fittings Dükercan be completely recycled, and
they are manufactured from iron and steel scrap in a percentage of 95%. Cast
iron has been a recycled product for centuries. Most plastic pipes, however,
are not recycled, but burnt or disposed of.
Epoxy coatings
The interior surfaces of pipes as well as the fittings of the Düker cast
iron sewage pipe systems SML, TML, MLB and MLK are equipped with
high-quality, fully cross-linked epoxy coatings.
These epoxy interior coatings surpass the requirements of the product
standard EN 877 by far. Furthermore, the manufacture of the pipes using the
centrifugal casting procedure guarantees extremely smooth interior walls
which facilitate an even, nonporous and elastic epoxy layer.
Zinc coating
Düker TML pipes as well as the MLB drainage pipe system are equipped with a
multiple layer exterior coating, with a zinc layer below the cover coat to
ensure the corrosion protection required for the respective application.
